Introduction
River rafting is an adventurous sport which is done in white water or in rough water.
It is a sport
in which rafter has to navigate the river using raft & paddle.
In India most of the rafting is
confined to the rivers flowing from the Himalayas.
Rivers such as Bhagirathi, Indus, Zanskar,
Alaknanda, Teesta, Brahmaputra, Kundalika etc offers rafting.
There are two types of rafts, one is for the single expert rafter and the other one has the
capacity of six persons with one guide.
All the rafts are equipped with life-jackets, helmets, and
the paddles for the rafters to navigate the river.
The main rafting rivers are: -
Rishikesh: - It is a 16Km stretch from Shivpuri to Lakshman-Jhula in Rishikesh.
There are 13 rapids with cliff jumping etc.
The best time for rafting is from September to June.
Zanskar: - Rafting is conducted between Padum to Zimo at the height of 12000 feats above the sea level.
The river lies in the terrains of Ladakh.
Best time to go is between July to August.
Bhagirathi: - It offers 150Km of rafting and the best time to raft is between October and mid May.
River Indus: - It offers rafting between snows capped peaks of Ladakh in Jammu & Kashmir.
