HSS SKH59 quenching treatment

Preheating stage: HSS SKH59 has a high alloy element content and poor thermal conductivity.

In order to reduce thermal stress, it needs to be preheated twice.

The first preheating temperature is 500-600°C, and the second preheating temperature is 800-850°C.

The holding time of each preheating is adjusted appropriately according to the size of the workpiece and the amount of furnace loading.

For example, for a workpiece with a diameter of about 50mm, the first preheating is 30-40 minutes, and the second preheating is 20-30 minutes.

Quenching heating temperature: generally between 1150-1220°C.

This temperature range can ensure that the alloy elements are fully dissolved in austenite to form a high alloy austenite structure.

However, the selection of specific temperature also needs to consider factors such as the type, size and use requirements of the tool.

Insulation time: The insulation time also needs to consider the size of the workpiece and the amount of furnace loading.

It is generally calculated based on the effective thickness of the workpiece for 20-30mm for 1 hour.

Quenching medium: Commonly used quenching media are oil or salt bath.

Oil cooling can achieve better quenching effect, but the cooling speed is relatively slow; salt bath quenching has a faster cooling speed, but the operation requirements are higher.
