- **Carbon (C)**: The content is generally between 0.17% and 0.22%, which belongs to the category of low carbon steel.

Carbon is the key element that determines the strength and hardness of steel.

This content range can ensure that the steel obtains high hardness on the surface after carburizing treatment, while the core still has good toughness and plasticity, and can withstand large impact loads.

- **Silicon (Si)**: The content is usually between 0.15% and 0.40%.

Silicon can be dissolved in ferrite, improve the strength and hardness of steel, and enhance the oxidation resistance and corrosion resistance of steel.

However, too high silicon content will reduce the toughness and welding performance of steel.

- **Manganese (Mn)**: The content is between 1.10% and 1.40%.

Manganese is a good deoxidizer and desulfurizer, which can effectively reduce the sulfur content in steel and reduce hot brittleness.

At the same time, manganese can improve the hardenability of steel, so that the steel can obtain a deeper hardened layer during quenching, thereby improving the strength and wear resistance of steel.

- **Chromium (Cr)**: Content is 0.80% - 1.10%.

Chromium can improve the hardenability, hardness and wear resistance of steel, and can also enhance the corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance of steel.

In 20MnCr5 steel, chromium forms alloy carbides with carbon, which helps to improve the surface hardness and wear resistance during carburizing.
