Alloy structural steel, also known as alloy steel, is a carbon structure with one or more elements below 5 added.
4140 material is considered a medium carbon alloy.
Molybdenum and chromium make it one of the most common steel alloys people choose.
Molybdenum makes the steel tougher than expected, while chromium increases resistance to corrosive substances.
4140 material is an alloy structural steel with high strength, hardenability, good toughness, small deformation during quenching, high creep strength and lasting strength at warm temperature.
4140 material can be hardened by quenching and low-temperature tempering of pre-hardened steel to increase the mold life to more than 800, 000 times.
When quenching, preheat at 500-600℃ for 2-4 hours, then keep at 850-880℃ for a certain period of time (at least 2 hours), put it in oil and cool it to 50-100℃, then air cool it out of oil.
After quenching, the hardness can reach 50-52HRC.
To prevent cracking, it should be immediately tempered at 200℃.
After tempering, the hardness can be maintained above 48HRC.
