AISI 4130 heat treatment - Annealing

​Purpose: Soften the material, improve machinability, and eliminate residual stress.

​Process parameters: Temperature 845-900°C (full annealing) or 650-700°C (stress relief annealing), holding time 1-2 hours/inch thickness, cooling method furnace cooling to 500°C and then air cooling (full annealing) or air cooling (stress relief annealing).

​AISI 4130 heat treatment - Quenching

​Purpose: Determine the final hardness and strength.

​Process parameters: Austenitizing temperature 830-860°C, holding time 30 minutes/inch thickness, cooling medium oil quenching or rapid polymer solution, cooling rate must be greater than the critical cooling rate (about 28°C/s).
