For example, Improved Machining (IM) grades have been developed to enhance the machining of the steel into components, grades for hardness by responding to heat treatment, and grades with high corrosion qualities by adding additional elements to give it the characteristics desired.

Stainless Steel Round Bar

- Standard: ASTM A276

- Condition: 25.4mm and less generally drawn, above 25.4mm and less than 101.6mm is generally annealed, turned, and polished.

Sizes above 101.6mm are generally rough-turned to k12 tolerance.

Grades 431 and 2205 are often stocked in a smooth-turned or centreless ground finish.

- Size Range: 3 to 304.8 mm (diameter)

- Grades: 303, 304/304L, 316/316L, 431 H&T, 2205, Improved Machining (303, 304, 316)

- Processing: Bar Cutting Our stainless steel round bar is generally sold in the annealed condition, although some grades such as 17-4 or certain 400 series grades may be hardened by heat-treating.

The standard length for most size round bars is 12’-14’ random lengths, but lengths are available in some sizes up to 20’ and longer.

Finishes on bars can vary and include cold drawn, centerless ground, smooth turned, rough turned, turned ground and polished, and HRAP.
