Factors affecting the hardness of 8620 alloy tool steel

Alloy elements: Nickel can improve the strength and toughness of 8620 alloy tool steel, and to a certain extent, it also helps to improve the hardness; Chromium can increase the hardenability of steel, so that the steel can obtain higher hardness after heat treatment; Molybdenum can refine the grains and improve the tempering stability of steel, so that the material can maintain a high hardness after heat treatment.

Heat treatment process: 8620 alloy tool steel usually undergoes heat treatment processes such as carburizing, quenching and tempering.

During the carburizing process, carbon atoms penetrate into the surface of the steel to form a high-carbon carburized layer.

After quenching, the carburized layer structure is transformed into martensite, which has a very high hardness, thereby greatly improving the surface hardness of the material.

Tempering is to eliminate quenching stress, stabilize the structure, and improve the toughness of the material while ensuring hardness.
