AISI 4130 alloy material is a low alloy steel with high strength and good toughness.

It is widely used in aerospace, oil and gas, automobile manufacturing and other fields.

Due to the presence of chromium and molybdenum in its alloy composition, special welding characteristics need to be paid attention to during welding to avoid defects such as cracks and pores.

Welding characteristics

- **Hardenability**: AISI 4130 alloy material has high hardenability due to the presence of chromium and molybdenum.

During welding, it is easy to form martensitic structure in the heat affected zone (HAZ), resulting in hardening and embrittlement, increasing the risk of cracks.

- **Hydrogen induced crack sensitivity**: Due to the high carbon content, AISI 4130 alloy material is more sensitive to hydrogen induced cracks (cold cracks), especially the presence of hydrogen during welding will increase the risk of cracks.

- **Preheating and post-heat treatment**: In order to reduce welding stress and avoid cracks, preheating and post-heat treatment are usually required.
