Silymarin is a flavonolignan ingredient

condensated with the dihydroflavonol and

phenylpropanoid derivatives that are

extracted from the fruit and seed of silybum

marinaum (L) Gaenrt.

It is odorless light

yellow or ochroid powder or white

crystallized powder, with slight bitter

taste.

It is freely soluble in acetone,

alcohol, mathyl alcohol and ethyl acetate,

and is insoluble in water.

The total

flavonolignan content is about 80%.

It mainly

contains four isomers including silybin,

isosilybin, silychristin and silydianin.

Among them, silybin content is the highest,

and the hepatic protection activity of

silybin is also the highest.

of silybum marianum contain about 29% of

silybum marianum oil.

The research

demonstrated that silybum marianum oil

contained large amount of crude fat and 8

kinds of fatty acid (mainly linoleic acid) as

well as 310.0±4.15mg／L protein and 12 kinds

of amino acid.

Among the determined 4

vitamins, the content of vitamin E is the

highest (26.76±0.86mg/L).
