There are two major requirements to a solar pumping system i.

FLOW and Head.

Flow

Flow– The water quantity you need during a certain time duration, such as, some cubic meter per hour ( CBM/ H) , littlers per minute ( L/ M) , if Americian system is applied, the unit could be gallon per minutes( G/ M) , gallon per hour( G/ H) .

A tip: to avoid misunderstanding, the unit from metric system is prefered.

If it is not nessary to make this figure that exact, you can tell how much water you expecting per day, such as 20cbuic meters per day.

Head

Head–also called as lift head.

It is the vertical distance that the water is lifted.

The actual head is the vertical distance from inlet of pump to the max height point of the water path.

It is the max vertial distance the water is lifted.

In the real case, the pipe, coners, joints and valves will consum energy, the head will be reduced which is called as Head Loss so the design lift head shold be larger than the actual head.

Design head=Actual Head+ Head Loss.

To calculate the head loss requires professional knowledge and complex processure, so please leave this part to us, you just need to tell the actual head.
