The measured sizes were slightly larger than the simulated

values.

This difference might be due to the insufficient NA of

the output lens and inaccuracies of the ridge shape assumed in

the simulation.

The propagation loss estimated by the Fabry-Pe

′rot method was 10 dB\\/cm.

The rather large loss might have

been caused by guided mode leakage to the LiNbO3 substrate

across the adhesive layer and scattering by roughness of the

ridge side walls.

Use of a thicker adhesive layer or insertion

of another low index underclad layer can reduce leakage loss.
