I don' t have the exact information for syn.
motors in such high power,
but I suggest you to look at the wind turbine generators used now.
We
have 1.5MW to 7MW wind turbine generators with 50/ 60 Hz converters.
If
the turbine use permanent magnetic generator, GoHz 50Hz/ 60Hz converter
has a ratio power equal to the grid power supplies.
I only know how much
a 50/ 60 Hz converter used for a 1.5MW double fed wind turbine under
480V power supply.
Because you cannot put loads in parallel for DC.

DC is used for point to point transmit power.
Also where two large systems are working in separate frequencies ( 50 Hz, 60 Hz) or does not have synced with each other ( eg.
Europe and russia) then power will be transmitted using converters and inverters | AC <- >DC | =<DC line >=| DC <- > AC | where voltage of DC on the ends will regulate the power flow direction.
