2 - The decomposition of magnesium hydroxide create water, it’s not only the coolant, also reduce the smoke density.

3 - The decomposition of magnesium hydroxide creates MgO, which is featured with big specific surface.

So it is easy to absorb smoke and cover the combustible material.
