In a counterflow cooling tower, air and water flow in opposite directions.
The air first enters the open area below the PVC filling medium and then rises vertically.
At the top of the tower there is a pressurized nozzle from which the water jet flows through the PVC filler in the opposite direction to the air flow.
In general, counterflow cooling towers have a smaller footprint than crossflow cooling towers, thus saving space.
In addition, counterflow cooling towers are less likely to freeze in cold weather.
Cooling Tower Parts and Functions
The following is a list of counterflow cooling tower parts that may need to be repaired and replaced during the life of the cooling tower: Water Supply System Counterflow cooling towers distribute water through a gravity flow distribution or pressurized sprinkler system into the PVC fill media, over which hot water basins are installed at the top of the cooling tower.
